With the right management, there is only one way for this orchard and that is up. The 5.0282 ha property backs the Rangitaiki River on the sunny fertile flats of Te Teko/Awakeri. In its heyday, eight years ago, the predominantly Hayward vines with some G14 yielded over 35,000 trays; seasonal fluctuations seeing it produce over 18,000 last year.
The very loosely estimated prediction for this season is around 10,000 trays from the 2.10 ca ha Hayward, and 5,000 from .92 ca ha G14. The vines are in four blocks, the Hayward in blocks of 1.35 ha, .37 ha and .38 ha and the G14 has dropped from 1.09 ha to its current .92 ha.
The home and shed, both in need of some TLC, are situated at the centre of the property. As the orchard is in receivership it should prove very good buying for someone willing to invest the time and infrastructure to bring it back to its former glory.
